Ornament or Idol?
A person was saying that they wanted to get a dragon figurine from Japan, because they are really kool looking. However, the person who was also involved in the convo said,
" Why would you want that in your house? It is an idol" Of course the other argued back saying ,
"How could that be an idol? If a drafon statue is an idol, then a teddy bear is one too!"
"A teddy bear is a symbol of God's creation, Japanese worship these dragon!"
"I am sure some ppl worship teddy bears also! But just because someone else worships it doesnt mean I cant have it as a decoration where I live."
So the convo kinda went out from there. But the question I have is...What do you consider Idols? If its an Idol to someone else, does it mean its your idol also? Do you have the right to judge what idols people have? And, would you consider a dragon or mystical creature some kind of god or idol if someone had one?
Just a thought...

hmm, very thought provoking indeed. i love those questions that make you stop and say, "huh". but of course, God doesn't want us to have anything in our lives that's higher than Him, especially if it's something we worship. for myself, i wouldn't see a dragon or a teddy bear as an idol, but as an ornament or decoration. i suppose if someone else saw something as an idol that's their business, but if the the opportunity came up to teach them the truth about there being one God and only he is to be worshipped then i'd certainly try to help them understand. besides, i'd give praise to Trogdor before i gave it to some silly dragon statue. and Trogdor comes in the NIIIIIIGGGGHHHHTTTTT!!

It's only an idol if you make a god out of it. People use to worship the sun and the moon in bible times, so if we were to block those basic's out of our life where would we be. God looks at the heart.

It's just a decoration in my opinion. There's only one real God and everything else is just his creation. If you understand that and have no temptation to worship that dragon then I don't see the problem.
Amanda also makes a good point. The moon, sun, the earth have all been worshiped as idols.

Good views guys. Personally, I dont think things are idols , unless you make them out to be. I mean, certain things in our lives are our idols. Like maybe your car or your cd player. We all have our own idols. And its hard sometimes to remember to put God first, before them.
But Amanda, that is good reasoning about the worship of the sun and moon and whatnot.

Haha Zach, you pulled an Amber!!! I guess my improper spelling is rubbing off on you.
And not to really change the subject but just veer alittle, I (as Zach also knows) hate saying LOL. Its such an obnoxious way of saying haha. I dunno, its just always annoyed me a but when ppl are just like LOL, LOL, LOL! So, I normally use haha, or if I really want to point out that something made me laugh ALOT~ i say, aww you r making me laugh out loud! But anywho, just my thought.
